Alaska’s Capitol Christmas Tree, a nearly 80-foot spruce from the Tongass National Forest, started its cross-country trip to Washington D.C. in late October. Wrangell, Alaska, was the tree’s first farewell stop. From there, it traveled to Ketchikan before heading to the Lower 48.
The tree arrived in Pocatello, Idaho, on Saturday, coinciding with Veteran’s Day weekend. Residents celebrated with a parade featuring a local marching band and color guard. The main attraction was tree’s enormous trailer, with clear walls showcasing the spruce.
Next, the tree visited Murray, Utah, where festive crowds wore holiday sweaters despite the lack of snow. James Edward Mills captured the vibrant scene for the U.S. Forest Service.
On Sunday, Grand Junction, Colorado, welcomed the tree with sunshine. Families signed the trailer, thanking Alaska, marking their state’s involvement. The tree will make 12 more stops before reaching Washington D.C. Its journey unites the nation in holiday spirit.
The arrival of Alaska’s Capitol Christmas Tree will symbolize unity and joy. The tree’s journey is almost complete, and soon Nation will gather around this magnificent Alaska spruce.
The tree’s arrival in Washington D.C. will kick off the holiday season, with a lighting ceremony scheduled for late November. Nation’s Capitol Christmas Tree will shine brightly, representing Alaska’s spirit and the country’s festive traditions, on the New Year.
