Alaska Silver Corp. has begun an ambitious 2026 exploration campaign at its Illinois Creek Project in western Alaska, with plans to complete at least 6,000 meters of diamond drilling as the company seeks to expand known mineral resources and test new high-potential discoveries.
The fully funded program represents the company’s largest exploration effort to date and will utilize two company-owned drill rigs operating simultaneously throughout the summer field season. Activity is expected to focus on the high-grade Waterpump Creek deposit, the recently discovered Silver Sage Zone, and several regional exploration targets across the 80,895-acre project.
A Bigger Bet on One of Alaska’s Emerging Mining Districts
For Alaska Silver, the 2026 season is about more than simply drilling additional holes.
The company believes Illinois Creek could host a much larger mineralized system than previously recognized. Recent geological work has strengthened its interpretation that the district contains multiple carbonate replacement deposit (CRD) systems associated with deeper intrusive centers.
“This will be our most aggressive summer program in our history,” Alaska Silver President and CEO Kit Marrs said when announcing the campaign. The company says its primary objectives are expanding the Waterpump Creek resource and identifying the source of mineralization discovered at Silver Sage.
Waterpump Creek Remains the Main Target
Much of the drilling will focus on Waterpump Creek, which already hosts a significant inferred silver-equivalent resource.
The deposit contains an inferred resource grading approximately 980 grams per tonne silver equivalent, and company geologists believe mineralization may continue beyond a post-mineral fault that currently limits the known resource.
During 2025 drilling, Alaska Silver completed four holes totaling more than 2,000 meters. The results helped identify geological structures that may have controlled the flow of mineralizing fluids and provided evidence that the system continues south of the fault zone.
The 2026 campaign is designed to better understand those structures and potentially locate additional high-grade mineralization.
Silver Sage Discovery Adds Excitement
Another major focus will be the Silver Sage Zone, discovered in 2025 through trenching along a historic soil anomaly trend.
The discovery generated considerable interest after trench samples returned exceptionally high silver values, including results exceeding 1,200 grams per tonne silver in some areas. Initial drilling later confirmed the presence of silver, lead, zinc, gold, and copper mineralization beneath the surface.
While the first drill program was relatively limited, the company now plans a more aggressive effort aimed at locating deeper sulfide-rich mineralization that could represent the core of the system.
Looking Beyond Current Resources
One of the more interesting aspects of the 2026 exploration plan is its regional focus.
Alaska Silver says it increasingly views the Illinois Creek district as containing two separate CRD-porphyry centers rather than a single isolated deposit. Exploration teams will conduct geological mapping, trenching, geochemical sampling, and target generation across the broader property while drilling continues at the main prospects.
Particular attention will be given to targets surrounding the Round Top silver-copper-molybdenum porphyry system, located roughly 20 kilometers from Illinois Creek.
Why Investors Are Watching
The drilling campaign comes at a time when interest in silver, gold, and critical minerals remains elevated.
Illinois Creek already hosts multiple resource areas, including the Waterpump Creek silver-zinc-lead deposit and the historic Illinois Creek gold-silver mine. Earlier this year, Alaska Silver reported updated resource estimates that increased indicated and inferred precious metal resources at parts of the project.
Mining investors will be watching closely to see whether the company can demonstrate that Illinois Creek is part of a larger district-scale mineral system capable of supporting future development.
For Alaska, the project also represents another example of continued exploration activity in the state’s mineral-rich western region, where companies are increasingly targeting deposits containing both precious and critical metals.
