Anchorage residents have a wide range of events to choose from this weekend, from high-energy outdoor competitions to cultural gatherings and community service activities.
The latest edition of the Anchorage Weekender highlights seven events across the city, including the popular Slush Cup at Alyeska Resort, Arctic Comic Con, and a community cleanup effort.
Slush Cup Returns to Alyeska Resort
One of the weekend’s biggest attractions is the annual Slush Cup, part of Alyeska Resort’s Spring Carnival.
Participants will ski or snowboard down a slope and attempt to glide across a pool of icy water, often while wearing creative costumes. Organizers say entry requires participation in a costume contest, with judging based on creativity and performance.
The multi-day carnival also features live music, vendor booths, family-friendly activities, and themed events, drawing crowds from across the region.
Arctic Comic Con Brings Pop Culture to Anchorage
Fans of comics, gaming, and pop culture will gather at the Dena’ina Center for Arctic Comic Con, a weekend-long convention featuring:
- Cosplay competitions
- Celebrity meet-and-greets
- Gaming and fan events
- More than 200 vendors
The event is open to all ages and includes a food truck carnival, making it one of Anchorage’s largest indoor gatherings this weekend.
Cultural and Community Events Across the City
Several smaller events offer a mix of food, music, and community engagement:
- A Korean food bazaar will serve homemade dishes at St. Andrew Kim Parish
- A sing-along brunch featuring music from artists like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey will raise funds for the Girl Scouts of Alaska
- A pet vaccine clinic will provide affordable services for animal owners

These events highlight Anchorage’s diverse community and focus on accessibility and participation.
Community Cleanup and Volunteer Efforts
Among the more unique events this weekend is a volunteer-driven cleanup effort encouraging residents to pick up pet waste in local parks.
Organizers say the “Scoop the Poop” event aims to promote responsible pet ownership while improving public spaces, with supplies provided for participants.
Music and Arts Round Out the Weekend
The weekend will also feature a large-scale musical performance at the Performing Arts Center, where more than 250 musicians are expected to perform Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
The concerts are scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday, offering residents a chance to experience a major cultural production in Anchorage.
