Krissy Barrett, Australian Federal Police (AFP) Deputy Commissioner, has revealed that a shocking plot to detonate an explosive-laden caravan in Sydney was a hoax. The caravan, discovered in northwestern Sydney on January 19, contained enough explosives to produce a 40m-wide blast.
However, investigators believed the plot was a hoax “almost immediately.” The ease of finding the caravan, the visibility of the explosives, and the lack of a detonator all raised suspicions.
Meanwhile, police refrained from sharing their concerns with the public, citing an “abundance of caution” as they continued to receive tip-offs about related terror plots. These tip-offs have since been confirmed as fabricated.
The fake plot involved multiple individuals with varying levels of involvement. They planned to purchase a caravan, load it with explosives and antisemitic materials, and leave it in a specific location.
Furthermore, Krissy Barrett described the plot as “an elaborate scheme” concocted by organized criminals, both domestic and offshore. The plot’s leader maintained a distance, hiring local criminals to carry out parts of the operation.
Additionally, the motivations behind the hoax are still unclear, but police believe the mastermind sought to manipulate their criminal status. A similar case involved an individual attempting to procure high-powered weapons for a fake terror plot.
In addition, the hoax has had a devastating impact on Sydney’s Jewish community, instilling fear and unwarranted suspicion. Australian police have condemned the actions, vowing to hold those responsible accountable.
Moreover, the police operation has highlighted the need for vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies. The community must remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
Krissy Barrett has successfully exposed the hoax plot, bringing relief to the community. Krissy Barrett Exposes Hoax Plot.
