Anchorage police and the FBI are actively searching a property behind the home of a man missing for over a month. The investigation of the missing man from the Eagle River gained traction Tuesday when officers arrived at the Mercy Drive residence around 11:30 am.
By Wednesday, several police vehicles, including an Anchorage Police Department RV, remained stationed outside the house. Municipal records confirm that the home belongs to Christopher Sternhagen, a current Anchorage police officer.
Police have not yet stated whether the search at Sternhagen´s home directly connects to the disappearance of 40-year-old Joshua Kronbach, also known as Tony Mac Kronos. The two houses sit directly beside each other, separated only by a fence.
Kronos disappeared on March 6, and authorities have listed him as a missing person. He was reportedly seen working in his yard often, according to the neighbors who described the street as a quiet and peaceful area.
Police have refused to comment on any potential developments in the case. Officer Sternhagen remains employed with APD, a fact confirmed again on Wednesday by police. However, no further information about his role in the investigation has been released.
Both APD and the FBI confirmed their presence at the scene. APD urged the public to avoid the area and follow officer instructions due to the use of tactical equipment, including drones. The FBI noted that it often assists in local cases if it possesses tools or techniques.
Lina Homan, a nearby resident, expressed frustration over the time it has taken to make visible progress. “It’s frustrating things have taken this long,” she stated. So far, the attempts to contact Kronos´s sister have not been successful.
