A hit-and-run collision in downtown Anchorage early Saturday left a 32-year-old pedestrian hospitalized with serious injuries. Police arrested Ariel Taylor Maskrey, 28, charging her with first-degree assault, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. near 4th Avenue and H Street. Responding officers found the victim unconscious in the street. Witnesses reported a sedan driven by a woman struck the pedestrian and fled.
The driver, identified as Maskrey, allegedly backed up, continued north, and turned east on 3rd Avenue. Police discovered a vehicle grill at the scene and later located the abandoned car near Arctic and Northern Lights boulevards.
Using traffic camera footage, officers identified the vehicle’s owner, who revealed his girlfriend, Maskrey, had been driving. Footage showed Maskrey exiting the driver’s seat. Her blood-alcohol level was 0.181, exceeding Alaska’s legal limit.
Maskrey faces charges for the “Anchorage Hit and Run.” The pedestrian suffered serious injuries, including a fractured skull, and was initially on a ventilator. Fortunately, his injuries were no longer considered life-threatening by morning.
The swift investigation led to Maskrey’s arrest and house arrest following an initial court appearance. The “Anchorage Hit and Run” incident highlights the importance of responsible driving.
