Authorities have identified the suspect in a targeted shooting that left two National Guardsmen critically injured near the White House late Tuesday, according to law enforcement officials.
The incident occurred in an area adjacent to the security perimeter, where the Guardsmen were assigned to routine protective duties. Police say the shooter approached the service members and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Emergency responders transported both Guardsmen to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the suspect has now been identified, though the name has not yet been released publicly as investigators work to locate the individual and determine a motive. Early findings indicate that the attack was deliberate and specifically directed at the uniformed personnel.
Federal agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI, are coordinating with local police as part of the investigation. Additional patrols and security measures have been put in place near the White House complex following the shooting.
