President Donald Trump said Friday that reports claiming he has decided to launch military strikes inside Venezuela are inaccurate.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Florida, Trump addressed questions about a story published by the Miami Herald, which reported that his administration had decided to target Venezuelan military facilities and that an operation could occur soon.
When asked whether the reports were true, Trump responded, “No.”
A reporter then followed up, asking whether a decision had been made on military action in Venezuela. Trump reiterated, “No, it’s not true.”
The comments directly contradict earlier speculation that Washington was preparing for a limited strike in response to tensions with Venezuela’s leadership.
In recent weeks, Trump has warned that the United States might take stronger measures against Venezuela. On October 16, he told reporters, “We’re going to stop them by land,” referring to ongoing U.S. military operations in the Caribbean Sea aimed at disrupting suspected drug trafficking routes.
The White House and Department of Defense have not issued additional statements clarifying the administration’s position on Venezuela.
