Active weather continues to impact roads and avalanche conditions across Southeast Alaska, according to the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities.
In Juneau, crews are pushing back snow berms and widening roads. Officials said lower-volume roads remain icy, with sanding ongoing as needed. Minor ponding has been reported on some roadways and is being addressed as conditions arise. Drivers are urged to use caution, as road conditions can change rapidly.
Thane Road remained open Tuesday morning, though avalanche hazard remains elevated. DOT&PF warned that additional closures are possible, potentially with limited advance notice, as active weather continues. Avalanche hazard reduction is planned when weather conditions allow for commercial aviation at higher elevations.
In Haines, DOT&PF has contracted with the Haines Avalanche Information Center to provide site-specific hazard assessments and improve situational awareness. No additional avalanches were reported in the past 24 hours, but avalanche danger remains elevated and conditions are being closely monitored.
The Klondike Highway is currently open. Avalanche hazard reduction conducted by Yukon Highways and Public Works over the weekend resulted in temporary closures on both sides of the border. DOT&PF contractors are assessing snowpack conditions to determine whether further mitigation is needed. Additional closures remain possible as unsettled weather persists.
DOT&PF said updates will continue to be provided through 511.alaska.gov and Nixle alerts as conditions evolve.
