A group of Good Samaritans and first responders came together to help save a team of sled dogs after their trailer overturned on an icy interstate earlier this week. Authorities say slick road conditions caused the trailer to tip, scattering the frightened dogs onto the frozen roadway.
The musher, who was traveling with the team for winter training, was not seriously injured, but several dogs broke free from the overturned trailer and ran onto the shoulder. Passing drivers immediately stopped to help, and within minutes first responders arrived to secure the scene.
Witnesses described the response as fast, coordinated, and overwhelmingly compassionate.

Police and fire crews worked alongside civilians to safely corral the dogs, warm them up, and check for injuries. The animals were later transported to a nearby veterinary clinic for evaluation. Early reports indicate that the majority of the dogs suffered only minor injuries, thanks in large part to the quick and collective rescue effort.
Officials praised the group of strangers who stopped to help despite the dangerous conditions.
The interstate remained partially closed during the rescue but reopened once the dogs were secured and the trailer was removed.
