Patrick Moran, 34, of Anchorage, has been named the culprit in the Richardson Vista disturbance that forced the evacuation last night. The event took place in the area of Government Hill, in the 900 block of Richardson Vista Road. At around 11:14 p.m. on Saturday, police said they began receiving several reports of a guy damaging cars in a parking lot while reportedly brandishing a huge knife. This sparked the incident. According to eyewitnesses, Moran cut tires and vandalized cars before locking himself in an apartment.
The Anchorage Police Department (APD) responded swiftly after Moran reportedly set fire to the residence as the situation intensified. Responding swiftly, officers blocked Richardson Vista Road and mitigated the disruption and fire risk. Authorities were busy evacuating the neighboring inhabitants to ensure their safety. Reportedly, during the evacuation, Moran attacked the cops, adding fuel to the fire.
The action that followed was that the APD used a less lethal option to grab Moran. One of these steps was the deployment of police K9 Ray, who managed to restrain the criminal until the officers could make the arrest. After Moran was taken to a nearby hospital, he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries that he had acquired during his detention. He was subsequently arrested and faced charges of arson and other felonies.
The Anchorage police reopened Richardson Vista Road at 1:37 a.m. on Sunday after extinguishing the fire and securing the area. Authorities continue to investigate the Richardson Vista Disturbance, with no injuries reported. The police’s quick response and use of non-lethal measures contained the fire, minimizing property damage and keeping everyone safe.
