On Thursday, an aircraft carrying nine passengers crashed close to Bangkok, sparking an extensive search and rescue effort. Long into the night, laborers toiled through thick mangrove trees and muck. Authorities think that 9 people, of which five were Chinese and two Thai passengers, as well as two Thai pilots, perished in the disaster. At 2:46 pm local time, the tiny aircraft took off from Bangkok’s primary international airport and headed to Trat Airport in eastern Thailand. Nevertheless, the jet lost communication 10 minutes or so into the trip.
Bang Pakong district residents in Chachoengsao saw the jet crash out of the sky and heard a massive explosion as it hit the ground, neighboring collision debris damaged neighboring residences. A resident reported hearing a loud engine noise just before the plane crashed, authorities have released a video of this event. As of right now, the cause of the crash remains a mystery.
At the crash site in Chachoengsao province, debris was scattered all over the place, and over 70 body parts were taken to a police hospital so they could be identified. Logistical issues caused delays in the search operations. The collision happened in a mangrove area, and the neighboring river’s high water levels made the search more difficult. The rescue personnel used headlamps to go through the debris, which included open bags and luggage. To control the high tide in the river, they had to erect barriers and pump away water. At 2am there was a lull in the hunt, which was resumed Friday morning.
Authorities will examine the debris to ascertain the reason for the collision. Interestingly, the plane spoke with air traffic control directly instead of using a black box. Experts are still investigating the plane crash in Bangkok to determine what caused this unfortunate incident.
