The Alaska Marine Highway System has announced that the MV Columbia will temporarily take over the MV Kennicott’s sailing schedule while the Kennicott undergoes final work before returning to service later this month.
According to AMHS, the Columbia’s winter season has been extended to ensure uninterrupted ferry service for communities across Southeast Alaska. The vessel will operate Kennicott’s scheduled routes serving Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Sitka, Juneau, Haines, and Bellingham.
Officials credited the U.S. Coast Guard and the Sector Southeast Alaska inspection teams for completing the Columbia’s annual inspections early Monday morning, allowing the vessel to remain in operation without delays.
