City planners are moving forward with designs for the Muldoon Transit Center, a new off-street public transportation facility that aims to make bus transfers safer and more efficient for Anchorage commuters.
The proposed center, located in East Anchorage, would replace current on-street transfer stops that often create congestion and safety concerns. By moving bus transfers to a dedicated off-street location, the facility would provide better shelter, lighting, and accessibility for riders year-round.
City officials say the Muldoon Transit Center could also include a connection to a new public library space, giving residents easier access to both transit and community resources in one location. The combined design would support Anchorage’s broader efforts to improve urban connectivity and promote sustainable public transportation.
The project is currently in the planning and public feedback phase, with municipal departments and community groups collaborating to refine design elements. The Anchorage Metropolitan Area Transportation Solutions (AMATS) program is overseeing early planning and funding considerations.
If approved, construction could begin in the coming years, making the Muldoon Transit Center one of the city’s most significant infrastructure upgrades for East Anchorage.
