Residents in Unit 22 are being advised that Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) biologists will conduct moose composition surveys from December 3–5, 2025, using 3–4 Super Cub aircraft in a portion of Unit 22B west of the Darby Mountains.
The surveys will involve low-altitude flights as biologists locate and classify moose. Aircraft may also be visible near the communities of White Mountain and Golovin, ADF&G said.

Moose composition surveys help wildlife managers understand population structure by determining the number of bulls per 100 cows and calves per 100 cows. This information is used to set sustainable harvest quotas and evaluate calf survival heading into winter.
