Governor Igor Artamonov reported that Ukrainian drone attack hit Russia’s Lipetsk region. The assault injured at least nine people and caused significant damage to the power infrastructure. Authorities briefly evacuated residents from affected areas as a safety measure.
This attack followed an earlier incident where Ukrainian troops crossed into Russia’s Kursk region. This marked the first time Ukraine invaded Russian territory, increasing pressure on Moscow in a region that had seen less violence before.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged the attack and emphasized that Russia must face the repercussions of its actions in Ukraine. He said, “Russia brought the war to our land, and it should feel what it has done.” Although Zelensky did not specifically name the Lipetsk incident, he directed his remarks toward the current tensions.
A Ukrainian source said the attack targeted an airport in Lipetsk, destroying a weapons storage area that held about 700 guided bombs. Reports say that the Ukrainian military, security service, and special operation troops made the attack. The blast hit many planes and caused a large fire.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have shot down and captured around 75 drones that were flying over Kursk, Lipetsk, Belgorod, and other places. This episode highlights the instability that has developed in Ukraine due to its attempts to dissuade Russian forces and draw attention away from the eastern front. Even though both sides engage in fierce combat, the situation remains uncertain.
