Authorities prosecuted three people in connection with Liam Payne’s death, which occurred on October 16th in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The death accusations include providing drugs and leaving the person behind that caused their death.
Toxicology tests revealed that Payne, the former One Direction member, had alcohol, cocaine, and antidepressants in his system at the time of death. Prosecutors confirmed these findings following an investigation into the circumstances of his fatal fall from a third-floor hotel balcony in the Palermo neighborhood.
Witnesses described hearing loud noises, including slamming doors and screaming, before staff called emergency services. Witnesses reported that Payne looked under the influence of drugs and alcohol as he damaged the hotel room. Payne’s body was found in the internal courtyard of Casa Sur. Authorities confirmed his death, but the forensic report later stated multiple traumas and internal bleeding that led to his death.
Prosecutor charged one of the accused, who allegedly visited Payne frequently during his stay, with abandoning a person followed by death, a crime for which a five to fifteen-year term is possible. They also suspect a hotel employee of giving Payne cocaine on two separate occasions, and on October 14th, a third person allegedly supplied Liam with drugs, further leading to his charge.
Prosecutors have collected numerous testimonies and conducted raids, seizing personal devices and reviewing over 800 hours of video footage. They have ruled out suicide, stating that Payne was likely unconscious or in a severely altered state when he fell. The investigation also eliminated the possibility of third involvement.
Payne had openly discussed his mental health struggles and substance use in the past, including alcohol and medication as coping mechanisms. Liam Payne’s death caused quite a turmoil amongst his followers.
