More than 1,000 people gathered in downtown Juneau on Saturday for the latest nationwide “No Kings” protest, joining a wave of demonstrations across the United States opposing the policies of President Donald Trump.
The rally took place at Overstreet Park, where residents braved cold conditions to participate in what organizers described as the third round of coordinated protests held nationwide. Demonstrators carried signs, chanted, and listened to speakers during the roughly hour-long event.
Participants said the protests are aimed at pushing back against what they view as increasingly authoritarian actions by the Trump administration. Issues raised during the rally included recent military actions abroad and stricter immigration enforcement policies across the country.
Kathleen Jorgensen, one of the attendees, said public participation is key to building momentum. She emphasized that continued turnout could encourage more people to join future demonstrations, noting that this was her third time attending a “No Kings” rally.
Speakers at the event included Heidi Drygas, executive director of the Alaska State Employees Association, who urged the crowd to remain engaged and vocal. She called on attendees to defend democratic values and continue showing up at public demonstrations.
The Juneau gathering was part of a broader national movement, with thousands of protests reported across the country on the same day. The coordinated effort reflects growing political activism tied to concerns over federal policies, including immigration enforcement and international conflicts.
Despite criticism from political opponents, demonstrators in Juneau remained unified, singing and chanting throughout the event. Organizers say the continued turnout signals sustained public engagement and suggests that similar protests are likely to continue in the coming months.
The rally also highlighted Alaska’s participation in national political movements, with similar events taking place in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and other communities across the state.
