Alaskans looking to try their hand at ice fishing this winter will have two opportunities to learn the basics during upcoming beginner classes hosted by Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) Alaska.
The outdoor education program is offering two identical Ice Fishing 101 sessions designed for beginners. Both classes will be held entirely outdoors and will provide hands-on instruction in a supportive, small-group setting.
The first session is scheduled for February 27, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration for that class opens on February 9 at 9 a.m.
A second session will take place on March 7, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with registration opening on February 17 at 9 a.m.
Each class is limited to 10 participants, ensuring individualized attention and a safe learning environment. Organizers note that both sessions cover the same content, so participants are asked to register for only one.

The course will introduce participants to essential ice fishing skills, including safety considerations, gear basics, drilling techniques, and responsible fishing practices. The exact Anchorage lake location will be announced closer to the event date.
Registration is available online at www.bow.adfg.alaska.gov, and those with questions can contact organizers at 907-267-2523.
With Alaska’s long winter season offering prime ice fishing conditions, organizers encourage early registration, as space is limited.
