A stolen helicopter crashed in Australia Cairns, on the rooftop of DoubleTree by Hilton hotel early on Monday morning, resulting in a tragic accident. The pilot’s demise and the injuries of two hotel visitors were the outcomes of the incident, which occurred at approximately 01:50 local time.
An employee who had attended a private send-off with colleagues just hours before the accident had seized the helicopter, which belonged to Nautilus Aviation. Reports indicate that the pilot, recently promoted to a ground crew position, attended a non-work event organized by acquaintances to celebrate with friends and off-duty pilots. The individual gained unauthorized access to the helicopter facility.
Witnesses observed the helicopter traveling at a perilously low altitude in rainy conditions before colliding with the hotel. Amanda Kay, a hotel resident, described the aircraft’s deviation from its intended trajectory and subsequent collision with the structure, which resulted in an explosion.
The helicopter crash in Australia sparked a fire, which necessitated the evacuation of approximately 400 guests. Moreover, the extent of the disaster was demonstrated by the rotor blades that fell on the hotel’s esplanade and into the pool.
Nautilus Aviation extends its condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the Australian helicopter disaster and is providing unwavering support to the Queensland Police Service and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau in their investigations.
