Alaska State Parks has issued a winter storm update following significant overnight snowfall in the Fairbanks region. Approximately 9 inches of snow accumulated across the area, prompting the National Weather Service to continue a Winter Storm Warning through 1:00 a.m. AKST on Saturday.
Blizzard conditions are expected to persist. Forecast details indicate:
- Additional snow accumulation of 1–3 inches, with up to 4 inches possible south and east of Fairbanks
- Wind gusts reaching 40 mph
- Visibility dropping below ¼ mile, creating potential whiteout conditions
Officials warn that travel throughout the region may be treacherous and potentially life-threatening, especially as blowing snow and ice reduce visibility and roadway stability.
