sitors to the Kenai Peninsula will soon enjoy improved amenities at the Eveline State Recreation Site (SRS), as Alaska State Parks begins construction to replace the site’s aging pit latrine with a modern vaulted toilet facility.
According to Alaska State Parks, the upgrade began on October 30 and is expected to be completed by November 10, with construction lasting approximately 4–5 days. The project aims to enhance visitor comfort and sanitation standards while maintaining the site’s natural charm.
During construction, the small parking area and trailhead at Eveline SRS will be temporarily closed to ensure public safety while contractors complete the installation. Officials have requested visitors to plan ahead and respect closures until the work is finished.
Alaska State Parks humorously described the project as a “nature throne upgrade,” noting that the new facility design is not representative of the standard Alaska State Parks latrines but will offer an improved experience for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.
The Eveline SRS is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering scenic trails, birdwatching, and panoramic views of Kachemak Bay and the Kenai Mountains. The new facility is part of ongoing efforts by Alaska State Parks to modernize and maintain park infrastructure across the region.
“We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we continue to improve facilities for all who enjoy Eveline,” the department stated.
