State officials are issuing an urgent reminder for owners to claim pets displaced during the 2025 West Coast Storms, with a firm deadline of December 15. After this date, any unclaimed dogs will be spayed or neutered and made available for adoption.
According to the Office of the State Veterinarian, dozens of dogs remain unclaimed despite significant reunification efforts. Pet owners are being asked to check immediately for their missing animals and verify foster care information if their dogs have already been located.
Residents are urged to visit AlaskaTyphoonDogs.org to view photos of unclaimed pets. Anyone who recognizes their dog, or whose missing dog is not listed on the site, should call the Pet Help Hotline at 907-615-8904 as soon as possible.
For dogs currently placed in long-term foster care, owners must check in by December 15 to confirm contact information and confirm they still intend to reclaim the pet. Foster verification can be completed by calling Anchorage Animal Care and Control at 907-343-8138.
Individuals experiencing housing transitions or difficulties keeping pets in non-congregate sheltering can contact the Tidal Basin Group at 907-759-6927 for support.
