Wong noted Apple risks falling behind competitors, including Vivo and Xiaomi, if it avoids competitive pricing models. Both firms are adopting as China’s economic slowdown impacts consumer spending.
Retailers, car manufacturers, and tech brands offer deals to boost lagging sales. On Friday, the Chinese government expanded its trade-in program to further stimulate purchasing, adding phones, tablets, and wearable tech to its list of eligible products.
Local competition intensifies Apple’s challenges in China’s smartphone market. IDC research shows Vivo led sales during the third quarter of 2024 with a 20% jump, while Apple’s share slightly dropped by 0.3%.
Huawei’s strong comeback, driven by new premium products defying US restrictions, saw its sales rise over 40%.
