Anchorage police say pedestrian deaths in the city have sharply increased, with 15 people killed in vehicle-versus-pedestrian collisions over the past 12 months, more than double the number of fatalities reported in 2023.
According to the Anchorage Police Department, the rise in deadly incidents reflects a growing concern about roadway safety as days get darker and winter conditions worsen. Investigators say many of the collisions occurred during low-visibility hours, on high-traffic roadways, or in areas with limited lighting.
