The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is inviting residents to join in some winter fun with the launch of the 2025–26 “Name a Snowplow” Contest!
This year’s contest focuses on one of Alaska’s snowiest and most iconic locations, Thompson Pass, known for its heavy snowfall and dramatic winter conditions. Alaskans are encouraged to submit their most creative, clever, or downright hilarious names for a snowplow that will take on the mighty challenge of keeping the pass clear.
The deadline to submit names is October 31, with the winning name to be announced on November 15. The selected name will be proudly displayed on the plow as it tackles the snow and ice all winter long.
Residents can enter the contest and view past winners by visiting dot.alaska.gov/nameasnowplow.
So, whether you’ve got a punny favorite like “Snowbi-Wan Kenobi” or a classic Alaskan touch like “Plowzilla”, now’s your chance to make your mark on Alaska’s winter roads!
