The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is set to hold a Tribal Team Engagement Session during the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) Convention this week, aiming to deepen collaboration and shape a more community-led Tribal transportation policy.
The session will take place Friday, October 17, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center, Room 4 (2nd Floor).
Commissioner Ryan Anderson and members of the DOT&PF Tribal Team will lead the discussion, inviting input from Tribal leaders, transportation professionals, and community members from across Alaska.
The open forum will focus on what meaningful consultation and partnership look like across the state, particularly in how Alaska’s Tribal governments and DOT&PF can better coordinate on transportation priorities. Participants will have the opportunity to share insights that will directly influence:
- Staff training and engagement tools
- Consultation guidelines
- Partnership protocols for future projects
Those unable to attend in person can share feedback through an online form at form.jotform.com/251985525671063, email info@alaskanativechamber.com, or call (907) 201-2626 to provide input.

DOT&PF officials emphasized that this session is part of an ongoing effort to ensure Alaska’s transportation planning reflects the voices and needs of Tribal communities statewide.
