The Alaska Cat Café issued a public message this week after an interaction between a visitor and staff raised concerns about appropriate behavior around the café’s rescue cats.
According to the café, a guest in the Cat Lounge pulled the tail of a resident cat named Nermal. A teenage staff member reminded the visitor not to handle the cat that way, a standard policy meant to protect the animals.
The café emphasized that its employees are trained to supervise interactions to ensure the safety and comfort of the cats, many of whom are rescues preparing for adoption.
The business also noted that incidents involving adults mishandling animals, such as waking sleeping cats, grabbing kittens, or batting cats away from personal items, remain one of its biggest challenges.

The Alaska Cat Café operates in partnership with local rescue groups, and proceeds from admissions and sales support medical care, food, and supplies for animals awaiting adoption.
In its message, the café encouraged community members who have had positive experiences to leave supportive Google reviews, saying public feedback plays an important role in helping the organization continue its mission.
