Alaska Airlines is planning a major new airport lounge at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, a two-story facility expected to become one of the largest airline lounges in the United States once completed.
The proposed lounge would measure about 40,000 square feet across two levels, with each floor spanning roughly 20,000 square feet. The space will be located in the airport’s expanded C Concourse, part of a broader terminal expansion project underway at Sea-Tac.
Plans call for two separate sections within the lounge: a traditional Alaska Airlines lounge area and an additional space designed for international travelers as the airline expands its global routes.
The lounge is part of a 145,000-square-foot, $399 million expansion of the C Concourse, according to airport planning documents. Construction permits are expected to be filed later this year.
Airport lounges have become a key part of airline competition for premium passengers. Carriers across the United States have expanded or redesigned lounges to attract high-spending travelers seeking quieter spaces, better food, and exclusive services before flights.
The planned Sea-Tac lounge would surpass the 39,000-square-foot Delta One Lounge at New York’s JFK Airport, currently one of the largest airline lounges in the country.
Seattle is Alaska Airlines’ largest hub and a central gateway for flights connecting the Pacific Northwest to Alaska. Many travelers heading to Anchorage, Fairbanks, and other Alaska destinations pass through Sea-Tac, making lounge upgrades especially relevant for the airline’s core customers.
The new facility also aligns with Alaska Airlines’ strategy to expand long-haul and international routes from Seattle.
The C Concourse expansion is expected to be completed before major international travel events in the coming years, while construction of the new Alaska Airlines lounge is still in the planning phase. Once permits are approved, the project will move toward development.
