This week, a convicted felon was arrested in Fairbanks by Alaska Wildlife Troopers after he attempted to steal firearms and a vehicle. Troopers responded on Thursday around 10:30 a.m., following a homeowner’s report of burglary caught on security footage while he was on vacation.
The homeowners’ cameras captured 44-year-old Donald Carroll Jr. breaking into the garage and entering a parked vehicle. Carroll attempted to flee the property in the stolen vehicle as wildlife troopers arrived in the area.
Authorities pursued Carroll for half a mile before he lost control and crashed into a snowbank. Carroll abandoned the vehicle and ran on foot, discarding items in the snow. He fled. After a while, Troopers from the Criminal Suppression Unit (CSU) caught him.
After the convicted felon was arrested in Fairbanks and authorities did more research, it was discovered that Carrol had broken into the house and taken several valuables, including two safes, a loaded AR-15 rifle, and another gun. Methamphetamine, other stolen goods, and other proof of the crime were found in the stolen car.
Authorities confirmed Carroll’s status as a convicted felon with a history of possessing concealed firearms and prohibited weapons. The suspect faces numerous charges, including burglary, vehicle theft, and weapon and drug-related offenses.
This incident highlights the importance of security systems and timely police intervention. It also focuses on crime prevention efforts and the need for the Alaskan community to be vigilant of their surroundings.
