The Bethel Kuskokwim Campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks will be closed for two weeks during June 9-20 to complete a renovation project begun last year.
Work will involve surface repair, painting and carpeting of public areas in the main building, such as hallways, classrooms and several offices. Repair and upgrades will also be done on inside and outside entryways.
The renovations are the result of a $750,000 U.S. Department of Education grant KuC received in 2007, managed by KuC Title III grant manager Will Updegrove.
Money was appropriated from the Alaska Legislature to do additional work on the main building, which will include a new roof and siding. This work will take place at the same time as the inside renovations.
“It will basically be a hardhat area,” campus director Mary C. Pete said.
The work will require most staff to vacate the building for two weeks.
Student Services Coordinator Kevin Kristof will relocate his office to the advising center during the renovation and will be available by phone to facilitate student registration and answer questions during the closure. The phone numbers to call are 543-4562 or 543-4599.
Construction and renovation will be overseen by KuC Facilities Manager Ron Kaiser, who can be reached at 544-4536.
